Homemade Thanksgiving Decorations
Thanksgiving is a joyous festival celebrated to commemorate the first feast of 1621 shared by the pilgrims and the Wampanoag Indians. Thanksgiving Day is celebrated with offering Thanksgiving prayers followed by Thanksgiving dinner, besides a host of other fun-filled activities like making crafts and decorating homes.
Thanksgiving gives everyone a chance to indulge in decorating their homes beautifully. Thanksgiving decorations add color mood to the festival besides keeping all engaged.
Many Thanksgiving decoration items are freely available in the market, however, as a tradition, people do also like to make their own decorations with much enthusiasm.

Ideas For Homemade Thanksgiving Decorations
Thanksgiving Circle
You need:
- Construction Paper
- Scissors
- Markers
- Stapler
Directions:
- Cut out 2"X6" strips from various colored construction paper.
- Have everyone write one thing they are thankful for on the strips.
- Form the strip into a circle and staple.
- Take the second strip and stick it through the center of the first circle you made then staple.
- Continue doing this until you have used all your strips.
Thanksgiving Table Runner
You need:
- Cotton table runner
- Fabric markers
Directions:
- A week before Thanksgiving Day set the table-runner and markers in a central location.
- Encourage everyone to write a fond memory or sentiment from the current year.
- Ask your younger kids to draw pictures to depict their message.
- Remember to include the dates of events you mention.
- After the big feast, store the table runner away until the same time next year when everyone can add a new round of thanks.
Pilgrim Place Cards
You need:
- Card stock
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Tempera paint
- Colored markers
- Gold glitter glue
- Craft knife
Directions:
- Cut out a 5"X4" rectangle from the card stock for each place card, plus one extra.
- Fold each card in half so that the 4" edges meet then reopen all of the cards.
- Draw a Pilgrim hat in the center of the extra card, positioning it so that the top is above the fold and the brim is just below it.
- Cut it out and use it as a template, tracing it in pencil onto the centers of the remaining cards.
- Once all of the hats are drawn, have your child lightly coat her thumb with skin-toned tempera paint and print a Pilgrim's head below each hat.
- When the paint is dry, your child can use the markers to color in the hats, draw on collars, add facial features and hairdos that resemble those of specific family members, and print their names. Then your child can adorn each hat with a glitter-glue buckle.
- Finally, use the craft knife (this is a parent's job) to cut along the outer edge of each hat top but not around the brim.
- Refold the cards, gently pulling up the hat tops to stand upright.Place them on the dinner table.
