Thanksgiving Day is celebrated with a Thanksgiving prayer followed by a delicious Thanksgiving treat. But, besides this, Thanksgiving Day celebrations also involve variety fun activities that makes Thanksgiving an event, the kids eagerly wait for.
Thanksgiving craft form a significant part of the fun. Also, Thanksgiving craft activities help foster fondness for the Thanksgiving Day amongst the kids. It all starts with preschool Thanksgiving crafts that introduce important symbols like Turkey, Pilgrims, and Pumpkins and so on. The preschool going kids begin to identify Thanksgiving with these symbols and thus also start valuing the event.

Simple Thanksgiving Turkey Craft
The preschool children need to be first shown either a picture/model of a Turkey so that they’re able to identify how the Turkey looks like. Along with picture kids can also be told a story on Turkey and its relevance in Thanksgiving Day.
Materials needed:
- 5-6 different sketches of Turkey (uncolored)
- 1 colored image / picture of Turkey
- Crayons / color pencils
- String/ Thread
Directions:
- Give the preschool kids a sketch of Turkey and ask them to fill in the colors looking at an already colored image.
- Give the Kids more of such Turkey sketches to color.
- Let them now color the Turkey without seeing the reference image.
- Once all sketches are colored, pass a thread through all and make into a hanging that can be hanged on the walls etc.
- Kids will be delighted to see their colorful creations and by then would have also understood what a Turkey is.
Similarly, the preschool kids can also color sketches of pilgrims, pumpkins and so on till they have finally learnt about them all.
Simple Clay Pilgrim
Once the preschool children are made aware of the important symbols related with Thanksgiving Day celebrations, they can be given activities to make small clay models of Pilgrims, native Indians, and Turkey etc. on their own.
Materials needed:
- Plastic Clay (different colors)
Directions
- Give sufficient amounts of plastic clay to the kids.
- Ask them shape the clay into an oval – for the main body.
- Tell them to shape some clay into a round – for the head.
- Tell them to also shape some clay into a small hat for the pilgrim.
- Ask them to make very small balls of clay – 6 in number – one each for
- mouth and nose, and two each for the ears and eyes.
- Now, tell them to place the small balls on the head accordingly and also the hat.
- Ask them to shape remaining clay into hands and legs – strong enough carry the weight of upper body.
- Tell them to assemble different body parts – the head, hands and legs.
